Rob read law at the University of Oxford, before studying for an LLM at University College London on a ‘Dean’s scholarship’. At university he developed keen interests in and led initiatives to improve student wellbeing, and access to higher education among students from underprivileged backgrounds. Rob was awarded a Wilfred Watson scholarship by Gray’s Inn to study the Bar Course.
Prior to commencing pupillage, Rob worked at the Law Commission as a research assistant on their surrogacy project, conducting legal research and drafting papers on a range of family law topics. Rob subsequently published a journal article on surrogacy and adoption law, focusing on the perspective of gay men, and a case commentary on a recent ECtHR surrogacy decision.
Rob has volunteered with a number of organisations, including Kirklees Law Centre, the Free Representation Unit, and African Prisons Project (now ‘Justice Defenders’) where he led an introductory law course for prisoners in Kampala, Uganda.
