On March 8, 2025, we stand together in solidarity to recognise International Women’s Day (IWD) and to empower the collective voice for gender equality.

Yesterday, we marked the occasion with a vibrant celebration at the Parliament Chamber, Inner Temple. The theme for this year’s IWD is #AccelerateAction, a call for urgent steps towards achieving gender parity.

Currently, research from the World Economic Forum indicates that at the existing pace, gender equality will not be realised until 2158 – approximately five generations from now. This stark reality highlights the need to amplify our efforts. The theme of #AccelerateAction urges us to expedite the progress necessary to dismantle the systemic barriers women encounter daily, personally and professionally.

To honour this, our event featured an inspiring poetry performance by Aminah Rahman, an award-winning poet hailing from Cambridge. Her work delves into themes of identity and mental health, showcasing the power of spoken word to convey poignant messages. Aminah has graced stages at the BBC and was specially commissioned by International Women’s Day to share her art.

The celebration also included rousing speeches from Alison Easton, Co-Head of Coram Chambers, and Martha Cover, a founding member of our Chambers. They reflected on the incredible strides made since the inception of Coram Chambers 25 years ago, where women led the way. Today, we are proud to say that 68% of our barristers are female, reinforcing our commitment to diversity and representation in family law.

In our collective journey toward gender equality, let us heed the call to #AccelerateAction. Join us in this critical movement, and don’t forget to check out our specially curated Spotify playlist celebrating women’s voices and contributions. Together, we can create a brighter future where equality is not just a goal, but a reality.
