Coram is pleased to introduce you to our new pupil barristers for the 2021-22 year- Alice Thornton and Daniel Taylor

Alice Thornton took a 1st in law at London School of Economics and a 1st in her Masters at Cambridge. She was graded “outstanding” (the top mark) on her BPTC, winning student of the year and an advocacy award. She is tri-lingual, was general editor of the Cambridge Law Review, is published and has lectured on themes including children’s rights in immigration and asylum law.

Prior to commencing pupillage, her employment experience includes two years as a legal caseworker at the AIRE Centre (during which she was involved in ground-breaking cases); working with victims of human trafficking and domestic violence; and mentoring children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Alice explained that her particular attraction to Coram included the academic interests and writing of our junior members, as well as our publicised emphasis on wellbeing.

Daniel Taylor took a 1st in law at Oxford and was then graded “distinction” (the top mark) on the Oxford BCL. Whilst there, he won the Exeter College prize for the top results in the law finals; then he was awarded the college’s most prestigious scholarship for full BCL funding. At university he co-founded Oxford Students for the Human Rights Act and launched Patchwork, an underground club night donating all profits to charity.

Prior to commencing pupillage, his employment experience includes working for a legal charity in South Africa (participating inter alia in the writing of a brief to the Lesotho High Court) and six months running legal clinics in a refugee community in Athens. He is currently full-time judicial assistant to Sir Ernest Ryder, Senior President of Tribunals. Daniel explained that he was particularly drawn to Coram’s ethos and involvement in leading cases such as NY (A Child).

Please join us in welcoming them to Coram!
