Coram is very proudly sponsoring the VCD Girls football team yet again this season and we will be cheering them on from the side-lines. We can’t help but comment on how sharp their new kit looks!
Like last season, we will be sharing match reports that are written by the players themselves. Please see the latest report below.
Zera scores 4 to take VCD to the next level, with an epic battle against Chatham Town!
VCD produced a 4 – 1 win away at Chatham Town to kick off their JPL journey. We started well and spent the first 20 minutes in Chatham’s half, controlling the tempo of the game. Our defence held the ball well, playing out from the back and controlled the midfield areas. The second quarter finished even, and left Sophie very little to do in goal. In the centre of the defence was the return of Leah which was a boost for the team. Juliana played through the midfield making some great interceptions. Abi and Kira worked well together creating some excellent passes to assist Esme in pressing forward. At 38 minutes we finally broke through to open the scoring with an assist from Rali to Zera.
The second half started with a strong attack from Chatham who were pushing forward, but we stood up to the physical challenge that was presented. As a team we continued to pass around them. We were awarded a free kick in the 53rd minute which was swung in by Leah, and the ball was met by Zera who took the opportunity to make it 2-0. Chatham were then presented with a penalty in the 58th minute which found the back of the net, despite Sophie’s great attempt to save it. Chatham continued to attack against us, but we held firm by some brilliant defensive work despite some of us taking up unexpected positions, such as Taylor at right back
As a team we continued to work together, and in the 75th minute a strong pass by Esme led Zera through on goal to make it 3-1, and an exceptional hatrick for Zera. The team continued their positive efforts, and another great assist from Bianca found Zera to finish the game with her fourth goal of the afternoon. Shortly after the final whistle was blown and the team finished with a 4-1 victory over Chatham Town. A brilliant result for our first JPL game of the season, and a great effort by all the team.
Thank you to Lily for supporting the team whilst injured and to all the parents and supporters for their continued support to the management and the players.
