The VCD Athletic have done it again! They defeated the Rising Stars 4-0 and 7-0 in their recent double header match. A match summary by Maisie Taylor can be found below.
In our recent match against Rising Stars, it was scheduled as a double header due to the previous games being cancelled. Both matches consisted of 50 minutes each, with two 25 minute halves.
The first game kicked off at 10:00am, and within the first half we had a lot of good possession in their half as we were warming to the format of the team; but could not produce the desired end product of a goal. Eventually, Cristabel hit the target with a great team goal that settled our nerves. As a team we defended well, as whenever Rising Stars got anywhere near our box the ball was successfully cleared by our defenders, or gathered by our ever dependant goalkeeper Sophie.
The 2nd half started similarly, and we made a few substitutes, and in the 33rd minute Deborah scored a well worked goal, which was shortly followed up by another great goal by Cristabel in the 37th minute. Straight from kick off, we regained possession as Cristabel scored again in the 40th minute to celebrate a well deserved hat trick that would hopefully secure us the win for the 1st game. For the remaining minutes of the game, we made some substitutions to ensure we reserved energy for the next game. The game finished 4-0, with us having most of the possession in the 2nd half.
The second game started with a lot more urgency, with Sacha making a brilliant individual run from our own half and hitting the back of the net with an amazing strike after only 6 minutes. Again, from the kick off we got possession back and played some excellent passing football, and after 9 minutes Deborah popped up with another great goal, and this was quickly followed a minute later by Deborah’s 2nd goal. Having the extra subs allowed us to keep the team fresh and energised, to allow us to continue to press hard against Rising Stars, and in the 18th minute Eloise was there to finish off a well-earned team goal. The first half concluded with the score line being 4-0, and coaching from both Ian & Barry helped guarantee we started the 2nd half in the same way we finished the 1st half.
Immediately from the kick off, we maintained lots of high quality possession but failed to meet the back of net. Until in the 40th minute Kira scored a fantastic goal, and we continued to push forward for more goals. Then, in the 45 minute Cristabel scored another special goal to increase the score line. Instantly, we took back possession after the kick off and the ball fell to Deborah as she slotted in another great goal to achieve her hat trick in the 47th minute. The game shortly came to end, with the end result an amazing 7-0 win.
An all round great two games, which earned us the league title. Which could not have been achieved without the abundant support of our coaches and parents.
